LAUNDRY ROOM REFRESH

During our consult we focused on what she wanted.  A way to hang and fold laundry right when it was done.  Something that was nice to look at since the doors were often left open.  Storage since the area was centralized and did double duty as a hub for medicines and supplies.  I asked first if paint or wallpaper was a must have since this would impact time needed.  Based on cost and time, she decided to save that for Phase 2.  Yes folks, impacts can be made but just doing a portion of the project first!  Also, to keep costs low and install quick, we option for covers for the wire shelving instead of replacing it all!

After we reviewed her inspiration pictures and went through some ideas, we were able to lock down the aesthetics.   She chose my ‘FULL SERVICE’ offering so wants this was done she was able to back away and let me take the reins.  After materials were ordered and delivered which took about a week, it was time for install.  Install occurred on a Saturday while the family was out and about enjoying the day.  It was also decided to use an expandable drying rod.  It is mounted on the side wall and can be pulled out across the width to hang items after they are washed.  Everything was completed by the end of day!

My client was like many of us.  She had a dream she was anchored too and couldn’t move past it.  So much so, she had been wanting to update her laundry area for 3 YEARS!  Let’s face it though, with 2 adults and 2 small kids, losing the ability to do laundry for an extended period was not an option.  Also, like so many of us who own a home, big projects are always taking up our time and money.  Small projects often feel like the return on investment isn’t there, so they constantly get deprioritized.  So, she sat and dreamed and then moved on.  Here was the before:

Inventory Reduction

True/False: Does 80% of your sales and revenue come from 20% of your products, services, or customers?

Most likely, yes. It’s the 80/20 rule (also known as the Pareto Principle). Your exact numbers may look a little different, but knowing them is critical if you want to maximize revenue and focus on what truly drives your business. I can help you find those insights.

Here’s a recent packaging client’s challenge and the results I delivered.

Problem:

  • Warehouses filled with excess raw material inventory

  • Multiple product lines to manage

  • Varying delivery timelines across products

  • Slow inventory turnover — averaging 8 months

Solution:

  • Re-evaluated raw materials purchasing practices

  • Reviewed infrequently used material sizes to determine if they were still necessary

  • Where possible, transitioned existing customers to more standardized sizes

  • For validated customer requirements, assessed whether generating additional scrap was more cost-effective than ordering unique material sizes

  • Implemented a defined review process and criteria for introducing new sizes/SKUs for new customers, allowing flexibility while ensuring thoughtful decision-making

  • Established inventory purchase thresholds for raw materials to better manage stock levels

Results:

  • Reduced raw material inventory by more than 50%

  • Improved inventory turnover from 8 months to 2 months

  • Implemented a structured raw material ordering process

  • Introduced improved purchasing practices based on inventory run rates
